What is Real Estate Law?
This is an area of law that needs little introduction. It is not possible to complete the purchase or sale of a single-family home, cottage, townhouse, condominium, or any sort of residential or commercial land without the assistance of a Real Estate Lawyer.
Just because real estate transactions happen by the tens of thousands every year in Canada, the unique characteristics of land (they aren’t making any more any time soon, as the saying goes) means that every deal must be handled with great care and attention to detail. When buying land, everything must be perfect or you get what you get, which might be a lot less than you thought you were getting.
It is also not irrelevant when talking about the important role Real Estate Lawyers play that for most people their home is the most expensive thing they will ever own. For many people, selling their home when they retire is how they plan to finance, to a large degree, their golden years.
There are many Real Estate Lawyers. It is steady, honest for lawyers and paralegals. There is nothing wrong with looking for a Real Estate Lawyer who offers good value. Many offer a fixed fee for straightforward transactions which are reasonable and helpful because it makes it easy to know how much you are going to have to pay in addition to the cost of the property if you are the buyer and, if you’re the seller, how much of what you’ll be getting will be going to your lawyer.
Many people also look for a Real Estate whose office is conveniently located so that when it comes time to sign the paperwork and pick up (or drop off) the keys, that can be done quickly.
